A Future Full of Potholes?

Drivers can expect to seriously struggle with potholes in the coming years. Unless someone steps up to the plate and provides big money for long-neglected roadway maintenance, the cracks and potholes will continue to get worse. The American Trucking Associations offered to pay a higher tax on diesel fuel to help fund road repairs, however many lawmakers want to lower taxes federally and let the states find funding through tolling and local sales taxes. Cure Aches by Sitting Up Straight

Thinking about going on a long cruise? A road trip? A biker rally? Then don’t forget to SIT UP STRAIGHT!

Those teachers who told you to sit up straight in school were onto something. It turns out this age-old advice could help relieve back pain, promote overall health, improve leadership skills and hone the mind into a more attentive state.

Research supporting the benefits of good posture could fill a library, but the fine folks at motorcyclecruiser.com recently did a piece that relates these benefits specifically to riding motorcycles. The pain relief alone is enough to make the baddest of riders straighten up, at least posture-wise.

Mulholland-Highway

A Lesson From the Snake

The Snake is one of the most revered roads in California. This meandering section of the Mulholland Highway is a hot spot for drivers and riders alike, but mostly it’s a hard lesson in how not to take a turn on a motorcycle.

Over on YouTube, RNickeyMouse has a formidable collection of videos recorded at Edwards Corner, the most-crashed piece of road on the Snake, and possibly anywhere. His videos are a testament to bad turning techniques, with plenty of amateurs gunning the gas before the turn, panicking and then crashing.

Here’s how the skilled riders take it: slow down before the turn, lean in, and roll on the gas after the apex, keeping your eyes on the exit the whole time. If you look down, you go down, if you look at the guard rail, you go into the guard rail. So, remember this Lesson of The Snake before your next ride, and you’ll be able to take a turn like a champ.

Riding with the Pack

Buddhists believe that there is no self. As a result, they tend to be more compassionate and aware of people around them. This is a powerful thought that all riders should consider, especially when travelling in packs. An experienced motorcycle blogger explains how his actions have affected riders around him, and vice versa. It’s a great read.
